What’s Planned for the Shulhouse?

On June 12, the Shulhouse families met with Rabbi Julie to discuss plans for the coming year. What a wonderful, enthusiastic and forward-thinking people who are putting their hearts and souls in the Community’s success. Here are Rabbi Julie’s notes on the results of their brainstorming session, which affects not just these families but the entire Community.

SHABBAT WORSHIP

After a beautiful and successful Shabbat for the whole community at Embry Riddle, complete with a visit from our Shabbat Queen, Diane Shapiro, we are going to shift the second Shabbat to a community service with a heavy emphasis on children. It will be held at Embry Riddle. The first and third Shabbat will continue to be held at Granite Peak UU Congregation.

And speaking of our Fridays at Embry Riddle, thanks to Danny Kowalsky for doing all of the arrangements for us to be able to enjoy the Embry Riddle chapel. It’s a priceless spot! And thank you to Shannon for agreeing to arrange the meals after our shabbat services at Embry Riddle. She will call to ask for assistance with pizza, shabbat dinners, whatever we decide. Everyone’s active participation is greatly appreciated.

SHULHOUSE MEETINGS

Our three school meetings for the year to come will be, one Friday evening at Embry Riddle, one Saturday morning Shabbat at the Porch and one gathering at the Highland Center. Plus, whatever holiday or gathering being offered to the Community will always include the school.

SHULHOUSE SATURDAY SHABBAT AT THE PORCH

We’ll be meeting once a month at the Porch for Saturday services and Hebrew learning. I will be collecting $100 from each family to cover the cost of the Porch ($75) a session so, once every 8 months or so, when the fund runs dry, I will ask again. This way I can pay it and ensure that it’s taken care of.

SHULHOUSE PHOTO

We are aiming for July 14th Friday evening Shabbat services at Embry Riddle. We can all come a bit early for the photo. Let me know if this works for you.

AUGUST 14th SHULHOUSE POOL PARTY

We are planning a Pool day at the Rabbi’s community pool (Prescott Lakes Club). This will just be for the Shulhouse. The charge will be $5 a child and $10 per adult. (that’s the cost for me) We can have lunch by the pool and let the kids play. Please let me know if you would like to join us as I will be picking up the waver forms before that date.

SHABBATON

Thanks to Shannon and Robyn who will be working on the SHABBATON for next May. This will be a getaway where we have a shabbat in some wonderful place and enjoy the beauty and the experience of a true shabbat together. This will be offered to the Community at large but the heart will be our school. We are hoping for a place in Sedona, thanks Robyn and Shannon for taking this on.

MOONLIGHT KAYAKING?

Do we want a Shulhouse kayaking moonlight event? It’s from 6:30 to 8:30 and is only offered 4 days a month when the moon is full. The next date is the middle of July. I will be taking the Community out on the 12th of July. We can either join them or have our own excursion. Please let me know if you would like to have this as a school event.

HIGH HOLIDAYS

We’ll be at the UU Granite Peak this year. We hope to have babysitting for the kids so they can run around a bit when they get fidgety. We could hire a babysitter or create I would like the kids to have babysitting and the ability to go and run around a bit and play when they get fidgety. We could hire a babysitter, or we could create a Co-op with each parent taking 30 minutes to watch the kids. I do want to highlight the children and bring them into the service at different times. Corrine has agreed to oversee this. Thank you!

Please note that we have reserved (thank you Robyn) the GROOM CREEK SCHOOLHOUSE for Selichot services, fun and picnic for Saturday afternoon the 17th of September. Please mark your calendars.

HOME EVENTS

If anyone wants to offer your home for an event next year, please let me know. So far, thank you to Corrine and Mitch for offering your home for Sukkot (We have to build a sukkah and need everyone’s help for that) And also for our yearly, movie showing before Passover of “The Prince of Egypt” at their home. If you would like to offer your home, please contact me directly.

We need a Circle of friends to figure out how to build and then to construct the SUKKAH! Call me!

We had such a wonderful time together and I feel so blessed to be serving such a lovable and menschy group of folks. I know how busy we all are so your help with the building of our Community is greatly appreciated. We are building something very special.
